Before & Aftercare: Cosmelan
Cosmelan is a professional depigmenting method that helps to fade skin spots and stops them coming back, thanks to its unique dual action. It both eliminates the visible spot, and acts at its source, regulating the overproduction of pigment to prevent its reappearance.
At your consultation
Your Nurse will take your medical history and discuss your treatment in full. Take time afterwards to consider this before you book your treatment. If you’re happy, we can book it during your consult.
Cosmelan 1
This is the first stage of your Cosmelan treatment programme. Your therapist will apply the peel in clinic – which targets the deeper layers of your skin (dermis) where melanin is produced. Once applied, you’ll head home and leave the peel on for 8-12 hours. Your therapist will determine this time based on your skin and the results you want to achieve. You’ll also get a kit with the home care products you need.

Mesoestetic makes the products for your Cosmelan 2 home care treatment. Their names can be confusing, so here’s our handy guide.
Hydracreme Fusion: Cleanser – for AM & PM
Hydratonic Mist: Moisturising Toner – use whenever skin needs cooling, soothing or hydrating
Hydravital Mask: Moisturising Face Mask – use PM with your Cosmelan 2 cream and leave on overnight
Post Procedure Fast Skin Repair sachets: use this special cream in the first days after your Cosmelan 1 peel, to support recovery and reduce inflammation
Proteoglycans ampoules: Treatment Serum – use 1/3 every alternate evening to moisturise, nourish and repair
Melan Recovery: Moisturising Balm – use with and apply over your Cosmelan 2 cream to relieve red, sensitive skin, protect and add moisture
Melan 130 Pigment Control: Tinted SPF 50 sunscreen – use daily to protect new skin
Cosmelan 2 Cream: Strong tyrosinase inhibitor – use this tinted cream every day to fade and prevent pigmentation
Saving face: your Cosmelan Aftercare Instructions
Day 1-7
Your therapist will carefully prepare your skin and apply the Cosmelan treatment mask in the clinic. Please leave it on for________ hours.
- When your mask time is up, remove it with warm water and your cleanser
- Follow with 2 sprays of toner
- Apply Melan Recovery
- Repeat this routine daily, AM & PM for the next 5-7 days until you see your therapist, when we’ll get you back into the clinic to assess your results and plan your further treatment
- AM only: apply Melan 130 Pigment Control on top of Melan Recovery, and wear a wide brimmed sun hat if you’re out and about
1 Week to 3 Months Post Treatment
AM – in this order
- Mesoestetic cleanser and toner
- Cosmelan 2 maintenance cream (using a pea sized amount each application, your jar will last for the next 3 months)
- Melan Recovery cream
- Apply Melan 130+ pigment control (or your preferred very high SPF sun protection) morning and noon, or as often as needed
Tip: Cosmelan 2 maintenance cream contains powerful active ingredients that may take your skin some getting used to. If skin feels extra sensitive, try mixing Cosmelan 2 with Melan Recovery at a ratio of 1:2.
PM – in this order
- Mesoestetic cleanser & toner
- Alternate nights apply 1/2 ampoule Proteoglycans OR Hydravital mask
- Cosmelan 2 maintenance cream
- Melan Recovery cream
Up to 7 Months Post Treatment
AM – in this order
- Mesoestetic cleanser and toner
- Melan Recovery cream
- Apply Melan 130+ pigment control (or your preferred very high SPF sun protection) morning and noon, or as often as needed
Tip: At this stage, you may want to switch out the cleanser, toner and moisturiser to your preferred products. Avoid anything too active – it’s good to discuss this with your therapist.
PM – in this order
- Mesoestetic cleanser & toner
- Alternate nights apply 1/2 ampoule Proteoglycans OR Hydravital mask
- Cosmelan 2 maintenance cream
- Melan Recovery cream
Note: Due to higher local sunlight levels, we’ve adapted the Cosmelan programme for NZ clients, so your treatment may differ to that of other countries. Please follow the instructions of your Nurse/therapist.
