At Ivy Clinic, we have the privilege of helping clients like Lorna achieve their aesthetic goals and regain confidence in their appearance. Lorna came to us with concerns about her "accordion lines" (lines either side of the mouth) and a desire to feel less aged. After a thorough consultation, we decided that cheek filler was the best option to address her concerns and provide the refreshed look she desired. In this blog, we'll walk you through Lorna's journey, from consultation to treatment and beyond.

Bought to you by senior cosmetic registered nurse & Ivy Clinic director - Kaylie Harrison.

Before: accordion lines either side of the mouth are accentuated by the reduction in cheek volume (reduced support to the skin of the cheek region).

Consultation:

  1. Lorna's Concerns: Lorna's primary concerns were centred around softening her "accordion lines" and looking and feeling less old. She wanted a subtle transformation that would enhance her natural beauty.

  2. Treatment Decision: After carefully assessing Lorna's facial structure and discussing her goals, we determined that cheek filler was the ideal solution. Lorna had experienced significant volume loss in her cheeks due to natural aging, including bone and medial cheek fat pad depletion. Cheek filler would not only soften her lines but also restore the lost volume, providing a more youthful and harmonious appearance.

  3. Prior Interventions: Before opting for cheek filler, Lorna had tried various other cosmetic interventions. She had received Botox treatments for her frown lines, had occasional facials, and used skincare products, including an Ultra Rich Moisturiser at night. She had also received lower face filler treatment several years ago.

  4. Consultation and Treatment Timing: Lorna and I had discussed the possibility of cheek filler treatment during her Botox appointments for a couple of years. However, she decided to go ahead with treatment when she felt ready. We did not consult and treat on the same day, allowing her time to make an informed decision. Ultimately, Lorna received 2 ml of cheek filler in one appointment, followed by a review session during which we decided to add 1 more ml for optimal results. Due to travel and health concerns, the second appointment was postponed to ensure her safety.

Before: the heavy nasolabial folds (either side of the nose & mouth) are a result of reduced cheek volume.

Treatment Process:

  1. Medical Check and Consent: Lorna underwent a medical check and provided her consent for the procedure. We prioritise the safety and well-being of our clients.

  2. Photography: We documented Lorna's before and after images to track her progress and ensure the best results.

  3. Numbing Cream: Numbing cream was not required for this treatment, as the procedure is generally well-tolerated.

  4. Injecting: We sterilised the area for product preparation & subsequently prepared the product. The area to be injected was then carefully marked out & then the injecting began. The process took 40 minutes.

Number of Sessions:

Lorna received a total of 3 ml of cheek filler, divided into two sessions to ensure a gradual and natural-looking transformation. This approach allows us to monitor the results closely and make any necessary adjustments.

Before & After Cheek Filler: fuller cheeks; reduced appearance of accordion lines, nasolabial folds, jowls (lower face); and reduced fine lines & wrinkles

Before & After Cheek Filler: fuller cheeks; reduced appearance of accordion lines and crows feet (lines either side of eyes & cheeks)

Follow-Up Care:

After the treatment, we provided Lorna with an aftercare card containing instructions, precautions & an after hours emergency contact. We also scheduled a follow-up appointment for review at 3 weeks to assess the results and address any concerns.

Ongoing Treatment:

Moving forward, Lorna plans to continue with regular Botox treatments to maintain her smooth and youthful complexion. We are also considering starting a tailored skin plan to support her filler results by boosting collagen production.

Longevity of Results:

The results of cheek filler treatment typically last between 12 to 18 months, although individual experiences may vary. Over time, the filler is naturally metabolised by the body, gradually returning the treated area to its original state.

Closing Thoughts:

Lorna's journey with cheek filler treatment has been a remarkable transformation. We are delighted to have played a part in helping her achieve a subtle, refreshed look that she loves. At our clinic, we prioritise safety, natural results, and client satisfaction, and we look forward to continuing to enhance the beauty and confidence of our wonderful clients like Lorna.
